The Romeo y Julieta Añejados Pirámides is a smooth cigar with a balanced medium profile that is suitable for both experienced aficionados and novice smokers.

Origin, Blend, and Vitolas

Romeo y Julieta Añejados Pirámides cigars are made at the La Corona factory in Havana, Cuba. They were released in January 2015 as a special edition. These high-quality cigars are aged in Cuba for about eight years in cedar boxes under optimal conditions. This cigar is made exclusively from Cuban tobacco. Romeo y Julieta is the first Añejados cigar made in a pyramid shape.

On the market

The Romeo y Julieta Añejados Pirámides is available in sample packages of 3, boxes of 25 cigars, and as a single stick.

Appearance

Romeo y Julieta Anejados

The cigars have a tan chestnut wrapper with a slight oil sheen. The wrapper has a few visible veins.

The Romeo y Julieta Añejados is available with a double ring band, a bright red Romeo y Julieta band, and a burgundy “Añejados” band. The date the cigars were made can be seen on the bottom of each box. Also stamped on the bottom of the box is “Revisado” (inspected), as the quality of each cigar has been verified.

Pre-Light Draw, Aroma, Taste

The aroma before lighting is caramel, cinnamon, floral notes and some cedar. The cedar aroma probably comes from the boxes the cigars were aged in. The flavor is hay, brioche, and cedar.

For this vitola, we chose our AKT Stainless Steel Cigar Cutter. The fame of Romeo y Julieta cigars and this special edition stick implies such a solemn preparation for smoking.

First Third

The first puffs are sweet and creamy. On the retrohale, you get sweet notes and light pepper.

The first third is a balanced taste between cedar, buttercream, and fresh notes of eucalyptus. There are some notes of cocoa and dark chocolate. On the retrohale, you get more sweet notes and fewer pepper notes than on the first puffs. There is nothing harsh about the first third.

Second Third

The second third develops the flavor with lots of cedar with notes of earth, herbs, and beech. On the retrohale, there is a graham cracker sweetness. No pepper flavor here, it is as smooth as it gets.

Final Third

Right at the beginning of the last third, there is some saltiness for a few puffs. The saltiness goes back to oak, earthy notes, cocoa, and cedar. Not much change in the retrohale, still plenty of graham cracker sweetness with a bit of pepper.

Ash

The ash is a silvery color and somewhat flaky. It lasts a good inch or so.

Burn

The burn of Romeo y Juliet is cool if you smoke it gently.

Smoke

Good smoke output. The smoke is really smooth and rich.

What Drink and Food Pairs Well with the Romeo y Julieta Añejados Pirámides

Bourbon or rum is suitable to accompany the smoking of Romeo y Julieta Añejados Pirámides. An excellent pairing beverage would be an espresso.

Food

A nice food pairing is with milk chocolate. If you don’t want a sweet snack, you can pair this cigar with salted nuts.

Cigar Smoked for This Review and Tasting Methodology

We smoked 6 cigars, Pirámides, 6.1×52, for this review. Each of us smoked two cigars for two days. For the test, we paired the cigar with water to clean our palates well and not affect the flavors of the cigar.

Final Verdict

You cannot find anything harsh about this cigar. You will enjoy smoking the Romeo y Julieta more if you smoke it gently. The cigar burns cool and the flavor profile remains perfectly balanced.
