First - we’re increasing our community rewards to $350 a month. We’re also setting aside $150 each month for Cigar Rights of America. You can read more about the rewards here: https://smoking-hub.com/cigar-deal-hunters-rewards/
And now the big news: we’ve built a new home for the community on Smoking Hub
As we’ve talked about before, it’s getting harder to run a community around our hobby on big platforms (Big Tech doesn't like anything that has nicotine in it). Reddit’s filters remove posts and comments. Facebook restricts posts that mention prices. We’ve seen Discord communities disappear(including Cigar Page’s). After years of working around algorithms, we wanted the community to have a place of its own.
A lot of the new site comes from things you’ve asked us to fix:
1. Deals, requests and general chat each have their own space:
- The Cigar and Accessory Deals forum category is for deal and coupon posts
- Cigar and Accessory Deal Requests (ISO) is for asking the community to help find specific products and deals (this category has its own rewards too)
- Cigar Talk is for everything else
This addresses a fair complaint from members who only want to see deals in their feeds. We’ve often had to remove posts that weren’t deals from our social communities. Now those conversations have a place on Smoking Hub - https://smoking-hub.com/community/
2. Notification options you can choose from - https://smoking-hub.com/manage-notifications/
3. The cigar deal, accessory deal and coupon code pages remain the place to browse current offers from across all our community channels. Everything is laid out clearly so it’s easier to see what’s still available. We keep the pages updated and remove expired offers. Now you can also report expired or problematic deals and codes, and earn points for helping us keep things accurate.
- Cigar deals - https://smoking-hub.com/cigar-deals/
- Accessory deals - https://smoking-hub.com/cigar-accessory-deals/
- Coupon codes - https://smoking-hub.com/cigar-coupon-codes/
4. Individual deal pages. Deals now have their own pages where you can share, comment and rate them (with Amazon deals as the exception). If a deal is also posted in the forum, comments appear on both the deal page and the forum post - comments stay in sync.
5. Filters and saved deals - you can now filter deals and coupon codes by retailer and save deals to your wishlist.
Some deals and forum categories are available only when you’re logged in, so sign up for a free account to see more of the site.
A quick note: like Slickdeals, our site uses scripts that may turn regular links shared by members into affiliate links. That means a link you post may change. This helps support the people doing the work behind the scenes and fund the community rewards without putting everything behind a paywall.
Real people have kept this community going for 4 years and real developers built the new site. Maybe we’re nostalgic, but we remember when you didn’t need a subscription to be part of an online community. More and more communities of all kinds are moving behind paywalls these days and we don’t want Cigar Deal Hunters to be one of them.
If a link or feature isn’t working, try pausing your ad blocker or VPN for the site. They can sometimes interfere.
We’re still working on improvements. If you have an idea, spot a bug or see something we could do better - tell us in Support & Feedback.
And to be clear - we’re still on Reddit, Facebook, Telegram and our other channels. The new site simply means the community has a safe place to call home, no matter what happens elsewhere. We may spend a little more time on the site at first while we all get used to it and adjust a few things along the way, but those communities remain a big part of Cigar Deal Hunters.
Thanks for being part of this, guys. It means a lot to us to be building it with you. Take a look and let us know what you think.
